Shad McLachlan enters his 12th season as an assistant coach with the Axemen. Coach McLachlan began his career at Acadia in 2007 as the linebacker’s coach, a position he has held for 10 of his 12 seasons.
In 2011, he was named Defensive Coordinator and enters his 9th season as the Axemen’s defensive bench boss. During his tenure as defensive coordinator, the Axemen defense has had 28 AUS defensive All-Stars and 14 U-Sport All Canadians, while producing a Defense that has ranked in the U-SPORTS top 10 on multiple occasions. Coach McLachlan has been a part of three Acadia AUS Championship teams (11’,12,17’) and has coached the AUS Defensive Player of the Year 3 times.
A native of Torrance California, Coach McLachlan spent three seasons playing linebacker for the Axemen. During his time as a player, he earned 1st Team All-Canadian honors as well as being voted the AUS Defensive Player of the Year.
Prior to coaching at Acadia, coach McLachlan spent one season as the linebacker’s coach at Torrance High School in Torrance California. A proud Acadia Alum, coach McLachlan graduated with a BA in History (05’) B.Ed (10’) and M.Ed. (19’)
