Axemen announce commitment by Manitoba's Miller

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - Acadia University and men's basketball coach Stephen Baur are pleased to announce the commitment of Winnipeg, Man. native Ben Miller. A heavily sought after at 6'3" point guard from Westgate Mennonite Collegiate, Miller will fit well into the Axemen's team profile, bringing athleticism and leadership.
 
While playing for Team Manitoba, Miller won a silver medal at the National Championship in summer of 2012 and at the Canada Games in 2013 at Sherbrooke, Que.. Originally born in Omaha, Nebraska, Miller has lived in Winnipeg over a decade and was recently voted the province's top boys' player in the Winnipeg Sun's annual coaches poll. Averaging 22 points per game, Miller had a 46 points game high this season with Westgate Mennonite Collegiate.

"Ben is a special talent that we are excited to have at Acadia.  He has the ability to make everyone around him better and will be a cornerstone to our program for the next five years", points out Baur. "He has shown his ability to control the game and is natural leader.  We anticipate him having an immediate impact for our program."
 
Other provincial accolades that Miller has achieved includes being named the Manitoba AAA Player of the Year.
 
When asked why he chose Acadia, Miller was frank about the recruiting process and the results. "The first time I heard about Acadia was when coach Baur contacted me this past summer. My provincial team coach and a few others spoke about how great of a basketball program they have (Acadia) and how great the atmosphere was as a student-athlete". Adding "I decided to attend Acadia for many reasons. I loved the town and school. They have a great basketball program. I felt comfortable with their current players along with the other recruits. On my visit I could tell it would be a great place to live, while being a student-athlete and playing basketball".

Concluding, "I was looking for a place where I could play on a successful team, somewhere that I would improve as a basketball player and student. And somewhere I feel comfortable calling home".

The Axemen finished the regular season in first place, receiving a semi-final bye before losing their first game of the championship weekend.
