Kidney and Minelli named Acadia athletes of the week
WOLFVILLE – Liam Kidney (hockey) and Bianca Minelli (basketball) have been named the Acadia athletes of the week for the period ending November 17.
Kidney, a third-year business administration student from Enfield, NS, played a key role in the Axemen’s 4-2 win over UPEI in their lone game of the week. The forward contributed a goal and an assist, with his goal serving as the game-winner. Kidney’s efforts on both ends of the ice were instrumental in securing the victory.
Minelli, a first-year classical studies student from Brescia, Italy, delivered an outstanding performance for the Axewomen, scoring a total of 39 points over two games in St. John’s against Memorial. She started the weekend with a season-high 18 points, which came after some travel delays forced the Axewomen to have a quick turnaround following their arrival – including a 9 p.m. start.
In Saturday’s contest, she added eight rebounds and three steals to her stat line, showcasing her versatility and impact as a first-year player.
Hockey will be on the road this weekend against STFX and Dalhousie, while basketball looks to continue building momentum when they host UNB on Stu Aberdeen Court on Friday night.
The Acadia athletes of the week are presented by McDonald's.
