Couture and Delorey named Acadia athletes of the week
Thomas Couture (men’s hockey) and Sarah Delorey (women’s basketball) have been named Acadia athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 18 following strong performances in AUS competition.
Couture, a third-year business administration student from Lévis, Que., made 33 saves in Friday’s 3–1 loss to UNB before turning aside 40 shots in a 5–1 win over UPEI on Saturday. He allowed just three goals over the two games, with one coming on an empty net against UNB. The performances came against conference rivals, with UNB entering the weekend six points back of the first-place Axemen and UPEI sitting three points behind Acadia in the standings.
Delorey, a fifth-year independent studies student from Elmsdale, N.S., led the Axewomen to a weekend sweep of Memorial, clinching a berth at the AUS championship. She scored 28 points on 12-for-13 shooting in Friday’s 73–55 win, adding 12 rebounds, three blocks, three assists and two steals for a double-double. She followed with 11 points, six rebounds, two blocks, two assists and a steal in Saturday’s 92–57 victory.
