Couture and Matsukubo named Acadia athletes of the week
Thomas Couture (men’s hockey) and Juliette Matsukubo (women’s rugby) have been named Acadia athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 12 following standout performances in AUS competition.
Couture, a third-year business administration student from Lévis, Que., made 42 saves in a 4-3 win over the No. 1-ranked UNB REDS and added 33 more in a 3-1 victory over UPEI to complete a weekend sweep at home. His 75 total saves led all AUS goaltenders on the weekend. Couture’s .921 save percentage ranks second in the conference, while his 129 total saves lead all AUS netminders this season.
Matsukubo, a fifth-year biology student from Ottawa, Ont., delivered a strong offensive performance in Acadia’s 48-10 win over UPEI, scoring two tries and making several key offloads to set up teammates for scores. She was named player of the game as the Axewomen clinched home-field advantage for the AUS semifinal.
The Acadia athletes of the week are presented by McDonald’s.
