The CIS Final 8 is returning to Halifax from March 9-12, 2017 and feature the top 8 teams in the country battling it out on the Scotiabank Centre hardwood. The defending AUS champion Dalhousie Tigers, led by head coach Rick Plato, will be the host team for the 2017 championship, while the Acadia Axemen, led by head coach Kevin Duffie, will be the host team for the 2018 championship. Both tournaments will be played at the Scotiabank Centre in Downtown Halifax, which has hosted the CIS Men's Basketball Championship a record 27 times.
The last time the tournament was hosted by the Axemen was in 1971 at Acadia's War Memorial Gymnasium when they defeated Manitoba 72-48 for their second of three CIAU (now CIS) championships.
Acadia's Director of Athletics, Kevin Dickie is happy to see the event return to Halifax and is looking forward to the partnership with SEAtlantic and Dalhousie.
"Acadia Athletics is very excited, with our history and tradition of Men's Basketball, to partner with Dalhousie and SEA to host this event', pointed out Dickie. "Although we are considered the host team in 2018, I can assure you our passion to be a part of this March's event is significant, as will be our engagement with our partners to showcase another world class event in Halifax."
