Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023
Belinda Campbell was one of the best to lace up for the Axewomen soccer program in its history, especially as a foundational member.
The midfielder was a key player with the Acadia women's soccer program as it rose to prominence after being established as a CIAU sport in 1987, with her being a leader of back-to-back AUAA championship teams at Acadia in 1987 and 1988. Belinda and her teammates from the 1988-89 team were also previously inducted into the Acadia Sports Hall of Fame in 2011 for their success that season, which included winning a CIAU silver medal at the national championship in Vancouver where they dropped a 2-0 decision to Queen’s in the national final.
Belinda was recognized each championship season by the CIAU. Her first season with the Axewomen she was named second team All-Canadian for Acadia in 1987 and first team All-Canadian in 1988.
Following her time at Acadia, she went on to play with Dalhousie where she was named a CIAU first team All-Canadian 1990 and 1991. She was also recognized provincially as the first-ever recipient of the AUAA women’s soccer rookie of the year honour in 1990 and first AUAA league MVP recipient in 1991. She was also named the Tigers women’s soccer MVP for the 1990-91 season.
Her success also caught the eyes of those with the national program as she was invited to Canada Soccer’s 1990 national team training camp in Manitoba.
On top of her time as a player, Belinda was one of the key female players who helped shape and build the Nova Scotia Soccer League.
