Jennifer Andrews
Athlete - Soccer
Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2019
Growing up in Mount Pearl, NL, Jennifer Andrews excelled at a variety of sports. She was a competitive swimmer, played basketball, hockey, softball, and volleyball, and was a three-time Female Athlete of the Year at Mount Pearl Senior High.
Jennifer’s real passion, though, was soccer, a sport in which she enjoyed great success from an early age. She played on provincial championship soccer teams for seven consecutive years, from U-12 in 1987 through to U-18 in 1993.
During her time as a minor soccer player, Jennifer represented Newfoundland and Labrador at 10 national championships, as well as at the Canada Summer Games in 1993. She was twice the recipient of the prestigious Keith Burt Scholarship.
Jennifer played on the provincial U-18 women’s soccer team at three national championships, in 1989, 1990 and 1991, on all three occasions still an underage player.
Entering Acadia in the fall of 1993, Jennifer enjoyed five successful seasons with the Axettes and was part of a succession of Acadia teams that were consistently in the hunt for the conference banner. In 1994, she was named a conference all-star striker after scoring 10 regular-season goals.
The following season, 1995, she again scored 10 regular-season goals, which earned her another AUAA all-star berth as well as recognition as the AUAA Player of the Year and a First-Team CIAU All-Canadian. She was also chosen Acadia’s Female Athlete of the Year for 1995-1996.
In the fall of 1996, persistence paid off for the Axettes as they captured their first AUAA championship in five seasons. Jennifer changed position to midfield, and though her regular-season scoring fell off to just one goal, she was again a conference all-star and a second-team all-Canadian at her new position.
Jennifer graduated from Acadia in 1998 with her degree in Business Administration. Following her graduation, she attended Nortech College in St. John’s, NL, and has worked as a computer software professional since 2000. She lives in Nepean, ON.
In 2015, Jennifer was inducted into the Mount Pearl Sports Alliance Hall of Fame for her athletic accomplishments in representing her hometown and her home province.
The Acadia Sports Hall of Fame is pleased to induct, in the Athlete category, Jennifer Andrews, a two-time all-Canadian and one of the most talented women’s soccer players of her generation.
