Kevin Baker
Athlete - Hockey
Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2024
Kevin Baker, born and raised in Kingston, Ontario, had a lifelong dream of playing in the NHL. Like many young athletes, he pursued that dream relentlessly, stepping into the world of professional hockey becoming a seventh round draft pick to Los Angeles Kings. But life had different plans.
A severe injury forced Baker to reconsider his path, leading him to Acadia University. What began as a detour soon became the defining chapter of his life. At Acadia, Baker embraced not only the sport he loved but a community that would leave an indelible mark on him.
Though sidelined during his first year due to eligibility rules, Baker made the most of his time off the ice. He immersed himself in student life, forged lasting friendships, and contributed to his team in every way he could. When he finally took to the ice for the Acadia Axemen, he made an immediate impact, earning AUS all-star and second-team all-Canadian honors in the 2004-05 season.
But it was the 2005-06 season that truly cemented his legacy. Baker was named AUS men’s hockey MVP, a first-team all-Canadian, and CIS men’s hockey MVP. His leadership was instrumental in securing an AUS championship that same year. Beyond the accolades, Baker’s contributions to Acadia’s community and hockey program were unparalleled.
As he reflects on his time at Acadia, it’s not just the awards that stand out, but the memories shared with teammates and the lifelong bonds formed. From the championship games to the bus rides home filled with joy, Baker’s journey is one of resilience, perseverance, and, most importantly, heart.
Now, with his family and daughters Tinsley and Hudsyn by his side, Kevin Baker returns to Acadia to be inducted into the Acadia Sports Hall of Fame. His story reminds us that success is not just about where you end up, but how you navigate the path that leads you there.
