The Acadia Axemen dropped a 20–5 decision to the Bishop's Gaiters on Saturday in Atlantic University Sport football action at Raymond Field.
Bishop's opened the scoring in the first quarter when Xavier Gervais kicked a rouge. Minutes later, Justin Quirion connected with Mouhamadou Dia for a 28-yard touchdown, and Gervais added the conversion for an 8–0 lead.
The Gaiters stretched the margin to 9–0 in the second quarter with another rouge. Acadia responded with a safety and then a 27-yard field goal from Nick Swain to cut the deficit to 9–5 before halftime.
Bishop's extended its advantage in the third quarter. Gervais hit a 23-yard field goal to make it 12–5. In the fourth, Quirion found Oliver Burnett for a 15-yard touchdown pass, and Gervais converted to push the score to 19–5. Another rouge in the final minute rounded out the scoring at 20–5.
The Axemen struggled to generate consistent offence, finishing with 163 total yards compared to Bishop's 392. Quarterback Tyran Duval completed eight of 19 passes for 66 yards but was intercepted twice. Noah Potter led Acadia on the ground with 33 yards on 16 carries. Gabrielos Kho had three catches for 42 yards.
On defence, Rory Litt recorded two sacks and four total tackles, while Owen Nightingale picked off two passes and added three tackles.
The loss dropped Acadia's record to 2–2, while Bishop's improved to 2–2.
The Axemen return to action Saturday, Sept. 27, when they host the Saint Mary's Huskies at Raymond Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
