Axemen add OSFL Defensive Player of the Year Ayo Kayode
OFSAA and OSFL champion strengthens Acadia defence
The Acadia Axemen football program has added a championship-tested defensive back with the commitment of Ayo Kayode of Brampton, Ont., for the 2026 Atlantic University Sport season.
Kayode, who stands six-foot-one and weighs 175 pounds, will study psychology at Acadia. He joins the Axemen after a standout high school and club career in Ontario.
A graduate of St. Roch Catholic Secondary School, Kayode helped the Ravens capture the 2024 OFSSAA championship and the Regional of Peel title.
At the club level, he competed with the Brampton Bulldogs in the Ontario Summer Football League, where he played a key role in the team’s 2024 OSFL championship season. Kayode was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year and established himself as one of the top playmakers in the circuit.
His defensive impact was highlighted by a standout performance in 2024 against Sarnia, where he recorded three interceptions, seven tackles, two tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He also led the OSFL in interceptions that season.
Kayode said committing to Acadia represents another step in his journey both on and off the field.
“I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to continue my athletic and academic journey at Acadia,” he said. “It’s a blessing and a dream come true, but this is just another checkpoint — I’m aiming for bigger goals now and I’m ready to work for it.”
