Fraser named special teams coordinator and recruiting for Axemen football
WOLFVILLE, N.S. — Acadia University football head coach Jeff Cummins is excited to welcome Peter Fraser as the Axemen’s new special teams coordinator and recruiter.
Fraser returns to Acadia with deep roots in the program and a wealth of U SPORTS experience, most recently serving as the head coach of the Mount Allison Mounties from 2018 to 2025. During his tenure in Sackville, Fraser led the Mounties to four consecutive AUS playoff appearances, including a trip to the 2022 Loney Bowl. Under his leadership, the program produced five CFL draft picks and saw substantial growth in both fundraising and alumni engagement.
“We are incredibly happy to have coach Peter Fraser back with the team. His presence is invaluable, and we’re excited to have his experience and expertise back on our sidelines," said Cummins. "Coach Fraser was a tremendous asset to our program for nine years previously, and we are looking forward to benefiting from his coaching skills and insights even more as we move into our next chapter of Acadia football."
From 2009 to 2016, Fraser was a core member of the Axemen coaching staff. His roles at Acadia included special teams coordinator, defensive line coach, recruiting coordinator, video coordinator and assistant head coach. He helped guide the Axemen to AUS championships in 2011 and 2012, and was instrumental in both game-day execution and roster development.
Fraser’s coaching résumé also includes experience at the national level. He served as defensive coordinator for Team Nova Scotia at the Canada Cup in 2012, 2013 and 2015, and worked with Team New Brunswick at the same event in 2018. In 2015 and 2016, he interned with the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders.
He brings more than two decades of coaching experience across Canadian university, junior and provincial programs, and has served on coaching staffs for multiple U SPORTS East West Bowl teams. He holds a Bachelor of Social Science from the University of Ottawa and is a fully certified Level 3 Football Coach through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
Fraser is originally from Oromocto, N.B., and began his post-secondary playing career at John Abbott College before suiting up for the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees.
