Airdrie standout joins Axemen linebacker group for 2026 season
Team captain and Defensive Player of the Year brings physical presence to Acadia
The Acadia Axemen football program has added a defensive standout from Alberta with the commitment of linebacker Lochlan Carre of Airdrie for the 2026 Atlantic University Sport season.
Carre, who stands six-foot-one and weighs 210 pounds, will study economics at Acadia. He joins the Axemen after a strong high school career at W.H. Croxford High School in Airdrie, where he developed into a leader on the defensive side of the ball.
During the 2025 season, Carre served as team captain and was named Croxford Defensive Player of the Year while also earning all-star honours. He led his team in tackles, showcasing his ability to consistently make plays and anchor the defence.
Carre played two seasons with Croxford in the Rocky View Schools Football League, helping guide the program through competitive seasons while establishing himself as one of the team’s top defensive contributors.
Known for his physical style of play and strong defensive instincts, Carre brings leadership and a high motor to the Axemen linebacker group. His experience as a captain reflects his commitment to preparation and his ability to set the tone for teammates on and off the field.
Carre said the opportunity to compete at the next level and be part of Acadia’s culture made the decision an easy one.
“Committing to Acadia means I will be competing at the highest level and being a part of a great culture,” he said. “I am excited in becoming an Axemen.”
