Calgary standout Sean Veldhoen commits to Axemen football
Central Memorial captain and sack leader headed to Wolfville
The Acadia Axemen football program has added defensive line depth with the commitment of Sean Veldhoen of Calgary, Alta., for the 2026 season.
Veldhoen, a 6'2, 215-pound defensive lineman, will study political science at Acadia. He joins the Axemen following a strong high school career with the Central Memorial Rams.
During his time with the Rams, Veldhoen established himself as a key contributor on the defensive front. He served as team captain, was named the team’s Defensive Lineman of the Year and led the squad in sacks. His performances also earned him multiple player-of-the-game honours.
One of his standout games included three tackles for loss and two sacks, highlighting his ability to disrupt opposing offences and make plays in the backfield.
Veldhoen also helped guide the Rams through an undefeated regular season that was ultimately cut short due to a teacher strike.
Before focusing on football, he spent several years competing in hockey with the Glenlake Hawks in Calgary. During that time, he earned the team’s Most Improved Player award.
Veldhoen said committing to Acadia represents an important milestone in his athletic and academic journey.
“Committing to Acadia means the world to me,” he said. “I’m incredibly excited to join such a strong program both athletically and academically. I’m grateful for everyone who helped me reach this point, and I’m looking forward to getting to work and making the most of the season ahead.”
