Churchill brings speed and playmaking ability to Axemen secondary
OSFL champion and defensive standout adds depth to Axemen secondary
The Acadia Axemen football program has added speed and versatility to its secondary with the commitment of Grimsby, Ont., native Daniel Churchill for the upcoming Atlantic University Sport season.
Churchill, a 6'1, 170-pound defensive back, joins the Axemen after developing through both the Ontario high school and club systems. He plans to study history at Acadia.
Churchill most recently played with the Niagara Spears in the Ontario Summer Football League (OSFL), competing at both the U16 and U18 levels. He was part of the Spears’ U16 squad that captured the KJ Kenemey Cup in 2023 and has continued to contribute at the U18 level, where he has already recorded multiple solo tackles on special teams early in the season.
At the high school level, Churchill played with West Niagara Secondary School. During his senior season, he recorded more than 30 tackles, five pass breakups and an interception, showcasing his ability to impact the game in coverage and in run support.
Earlier in his career, Churchill demonstrated his playmaking ability in multiple phases of the game. He recorded a fumble recovery touchdown and contributed as both a receiver and returner during his junior varsity season.
Churchill said committing to Acadia reflects both his dedication to the game and his desire to continue developing at the next level.
“Committing to Acadia means trusting in the work I’ve put in and embracing the opportunity to grow not only as an athlete, but at a personal level as well,” he said. “I’m very grateful for everyone who has helped me along the way as I continue to grow into who I am.”
Known for his discipline and team-first mindset, Churchill takes pride in being coachable and reliable on every play. He said he is committed to improving both on and off the field as he prepares for the next stage of his career.
