Axemen add Alberta champion Evan Leadbeater to secondary
The Acadia Axemen football program has added championship experience to its secondary with the commitment of Calgary native Evan Leadbeater for the upcoming Atlantic University Sport season.
Leadbeater, a 6'0, 170-pound defensive back, joins the Axemen after a successful high school and club football career in Alberta. He plans to study business at Acadia.
Leadbeater developed with Ernest Manning High School, helping the program capture an Alberta provincial championship during the 2025 season. The team posted key playoff victories over Lethbridge Collegiate Institute and Harry Ainlay before securing a 31-0 win in the provincial final.
At the club level, Leadbeater also competed with the Calgary Wildcats, where the team finished the 2025 season with a perfect 10-0 record. His experience competing in winning environments has helped shape his approach on and off the field.
Known for his instincts and coverage ability, Leadbeater produced strong numbers in the secondary. He recorded four interceptions and 10 pass breakups while not allowing a touchdown in coverage.
His ability to read opposing offences and stay disciplined in coverage made him a reliable defensive presence throughout his career.
Leadbeater said the opportunity to join Acadia is one he values deeply.
“I’m grateful to become part of the Axemen and develop into the best player I can be with a great program.”
