Ravens use bench to drop Laval in opening game

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - A Marcus Anderson (Brampton, Ont.) three point shot early in the first quarter neutralized an early Laval Rouge et Or lead to tie the game at 13 and led to a Carleton Ravens advantage throughout game one of the Stu Aberdeen Challenge.

The reigning CIS champions held 23-21 and 43-32 leads after the opening quarter and halftime.

Subway Player of the Game Kaza Kajami-Keane (Ajax, Ont.) posted 15 points as Ravens' head coach Dave Smart spread the wealth with 43 points scored from the bench.

Shooting 46.8% from the floor, the Ravens were 14 of 31 from the distant arc and maintained the lead throughout the second half, pushing to a 27 point lead late in the fourth quarter.

Other Carleton standouts included Connor Wood (Guelph, Ont.) with a team high 16 points and Stanley Mayambo (Fredericton, N.B.) added 12 points in only 16 minutes of play. Mayambo was four of five in three point territory.

The Rouge et Or's Karl Demers-Belanger (Quebec, Que.), who was named as the Subway Player of the Game, dropped 13 points including three of eight from three point distance.

Laval's Alexandre Leclerc (Saguenay, Que.) and Vladimir Thomas (Montreal, Que.) scored in double digit range with 10 and 11 points respectively.

The Ravens (1-0) will take on the host Acadia Axemen at 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening, while the Rouge et Or (0-1) will meet the StFX X-Men in the opening 6:00 p.m. game.
