Davignon scores 26 as Acadia delivers efficient offensive performance at the Dalplex
Acadia earned an 89–80 win over Dalhousie on Wednesday night at the Dalplex, leaning on efficient shooting and balanced scoring to secure the road victory.
The Axemen shot 51.8 per cent from the field and 42.9 per cent from three-point range, building and maintaining control through each half.
Gabe Davignon led Acadia with 26 points, connecting on four three-pointers and adding three steals. Kyle Munro finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Donovan Reid contributed 12 points, going a perfect 8-for-8 at the free-throw line while blocking three shots. Robbie Grant added seven points, six rebounds, and four steals.
Dalhousie opened the scoring with a three-pointer from Lydell Husbands, but Acadia responded quickly. Munro scored on a free throw, a jumper, and a layup to give the visitors a 5–3 edge. The Tigers briefly moved back in front behind baskets from James Murphy and Riley Stewart, before Davignon hit a three-pointer at the 3:03 mark to swing momentum back to Acadia.
The opening half remained tight. Reid converted two free throws in the final seconds to give Acadia a 21–19 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Acadia extended its advantage in the second quarter behind Munro, who opened the frame with back-to-back layups. Davignon added a three-pointer at 7:19 to push the lead to eight. Dalhousie continued to answer, but Acadia closed the half strong. A late layup from Ryan Regault and a defensive rebound by Briawne Wilson helped the Axemen carry a 44–40 lead into the break.
The Axemen created separation in the third quarter. Grant opened the scoring with a three-pointer at 7:05, while Reid added a layup off a Regault assist as Acadia scored consistently in the paint. Malko Young knocked down two three-pointers midway through the quarter, helping Acadia extend its lead to 66–56 heading into the fourth.
Dalhousie pushed late, cutting the margin to four on a three-pointer from Giovanni Ajiamah at 3:31. Acadia answered with timely baskets and steady free-throw shooting. Davignon's layup at 1:29 steadied the Axemen, who closed out the game from the line to secure the 89–80 win.
Jacob Christie led Dalhousie with 16 points. Husbands posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, adding five assists and three steals. Jayden Parker scored 15 points, while Stewart finished with 12.
Acadia returns to action Saturday night on the road in Charlottetown against UPEI. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
