Cam MacDonald is the latest commit to the Acadia men’s hockey team for the 2024-25 season.
He joins Acadia via the Cape Breton Eagles, who advanced to the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) semifinal this season. With Cape Breton the 6’2 forward from Hammonds Plains had 19 goals and 29 assists in 63 regular season games before finishing with seven goals and six assists for 13 points in 13 playoff games.
Prior to his time with the Eagles he was with the Saint John Sea Dogs from 2020 to the midway point of the 2023 season. During the 2021-22 season he was part of the Memorial Cup champion Sea Dogs. He finished with three points over the four championship games.
“We have known him a for a long time. You know exactly what you’re getting from him,” said head coach Darren Burns. “It’s all about hard work and it’s all about team. This has never changed since he was a young kid. He’s a guy you bring in to help you win because he does what is needed. His work ethic and toughness make him a great addition. He also possesses strong hockey sense, good hands and is strong in the faceoff circle. He’s a 200-foot player who will help our penalty kill and power play. He was a key piece of the Memorial Cup team in Saint John and we know he will bring that winning mentality to our program.”
Over 218 QMJHL regular season games he finished with 73 goals and 82 assists, while adding 18 goals and 11 assists in 37 postseason games.
Before heading to the United States for time with South Kent School and the Sioux Falls Stampede, he played with the Halifax Gulls major bantam program in the NSMBHL. Over those two seasons with the Gulls he had 68 goals and 43 assists in just 66 games, while winning the league championship in 2018. He also led the league that season in goals and points.
“It means a lot to come play for Acadia. I’ve had friends and family attend the school with nothing but good things to say,” said MacDonald. “Knowing a lot of players that I have played with on the team now really helped me decide to choose Acadia. I’m very excited to come to Acadia and help win hockey games.”
