The Acadia Axemen earned their second win of the season Sunday, defeating the Mount Allison Mounties 1-0 in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action at Raymond Field.
Jabu Deng scored the lone goal of the match in the 39th minute. Deng converted a pass from Toni Adeoye to give Acadia the lead heading into halftime.
The Axemen created consistent pressure throughout the game, recording 16 shots, nine of them on target. Adeoye, Max Rogers, and Nathan Amoah-Gyekye each generated chances, while Mount Allison goalkeeper Rhys Chambers kept the visitors in contention with eight saves.
Acadia goalkeeper Connor Burns faced two shots on goal and turned both aside to record the clean sheet.
The match was physical, with 27 fouls and eight yellow cards issued. Rogers and Amoah-Gyekye were cautioned for Acadia, while five Mount Allison players also received yellow cards.
The Axemen held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks and improved their record to 2-1-1. The Mounties fell to 0-4-0.
Acadia is back on Raymond Field Friday night to host the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
