WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The Acadia Axemen earned their third win of the season Sunday, edging the UPEI Panthers 3-2 in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action at Raymond Field.
Acadia opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Aaron John struck unassisted to give the Axemen a 1-0 lead.
The hosts doubled their advantage in the 43rd minute. Sam Young finished a pass from Jacob Balys to send Acadia into halftime ahead 2-0.
The Panthers cut into the lead late in the second half. Jahmal Boursiquot scored in the 83rd minute, assisted by Joash Bouchard, to bring UPEI within one.
Just three minutes later, the Axemen restored their cushion. Jabu Deng scored in the 86th minute to make it 3-1.
UPEI added one more in stoppage time when Riad Jaha found the net in the 90th minute, but Acadia held on for the 3-2 win.
The Panthers outshot the Axemen 14-11, including a 10-3 margin in the second half. Goalkeeper Connor Burns made four saves on six shots for Acadia.
With the victory, the Axemen improved to 3-3-2 on the season, while UPEI dropped to 2-7-0.
Acadia returns to Raymond Field on Friday, Oct. 3, when they host Memorial. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
