HALIFAX, N.S. — Toni Adeoye scored three times as the Acadia Axemen beat the Saint Mary's Huskies 5–2 in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer on Saturday at Huskies Stadium.
Saint Mary's struck first in the second minute through Will Brown, set up by Colby Mercer. Acadia answered three minutes later when Blaise Mellema finished unassisted to level the match 1–1. The Axemen grabbed the lead on the final action of the half: Aaron John served a corner and Adeoye headed home at 45:00 for a 2–1 advantage at the break.
Acadia controlled the second half. Adeoye added his second in the 64th minute to make it 3–1. AJ Magamura scored unassisted in the 67th, and Adeoye completed his hat trick two minutes later for a 5–1 lead. Brown pulled one back for the Huskies at 90:00 to close the scoring.
The Axemen outshot Saint Mary's 14–10, including a 10–4 edge on target, and held a 13–4 advantage in corner kicks. Connor Burns made two saves for the win. Saint Mary's split the goalkeeping duties, with Logan Briand playing the first half and Tomas Mello the second. Cautions were issued to SMU's Isiah Loague (49') and Acadia's Adeoye (70') and Nathan Amoah-Gyekye (76').
