Axemen add OPDL midfielder Luke Wildi to 2026 recruiting class
Cambridge United captain adds midfield depth for the Axemen
The Acadia Axemen men’s soccer program has added a proven Ontario Player Development League performer with the commitment of Luke Wildi, a midfielder from Cambridge, Ont.
Wildi, who stands 5'8, will arrive in Wolfville after five seasons with Cambridge United in the OPDL, one of Canada’s top youth development leagues. He will begin his studies in Environmental and Sustainability Studies when he joins the Axemen.
A long-time leader with Cambridge United, Wildi served as team captain from U13 through U17, guiding his club through multiple successful campaigns at the provincial level. Over that span, Cambridge United won the OPDL West Division, finished top four in the league in three of five seasons, and earned OPDL Team of the Month honours.
His teams also produced strong results on the showcase and playoff stage. In 2023, Cambridge United won the EDP Easter Showcase, and in 2024 the club was ranked sixth in Canada by FTF. During the 2025 season, Wildi helped lead the side to the OPDL Cup Final, Trillium Cup Final, Woodbridge Showcase Final, and a MSV Showcase championship.
One of his most memorable moments came in the OPDL Cup semifinals, when Wildi scored the decisive penalty in a shootout to send Cambridge United to its first-ever OPDL Cup final.
Axemen head coach Matt Holton said Wildi’s influence extends beyond statistics.
“We are delighted to have Luke join us for the 2026 season,” said Holton. “Luke is an intelligent, technical midfielder who excels in linking the defence with attack. He is a natural leader and someone who will continue to push the standards of the Acadia Axemen soccer program through his actions.”
Wildi has also earned Team Ontario tryout invitations, reflecting his performance at the provincial level.
“I am really excited to commit to Acadia,” Wildi said. “Playing U SPORTS soccer outside of Ontario was a goal I set for myself when I started thinking about my future. I am humbled to see that my years of dedication have paid off, and I’m excited to see what my future holds at Acadia.”
Known for his work rate and intelligence in midfield, Wildi brings a two-way game that includes ball-winning, distribution, and set-piece delivery. His ability to read the play and turn defence into attack has been a key part of his development in the OPDL.
