WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Citadel Phoenix's Taya Dixon has made a commitment to attend Acadia University and play for the Axewomen basketball team in the fall of 2022. Acadia women's basketball head coach Len Harvey made the announcement today and is thrilled to have the NSSAF Division 1 guard joining the Axewomen this coming academic year.
"I think Taya is going to be a fantastic USPORTS player. She's incredibly explosive and has worked hard on her game over the last number of years. She's going to fit our style of play well, and I also see her as being someone who could become an exceptional perimeter defender in our conference," said Harvey.
Harvey added, "The biggest thing that stands out with Taya is her competitive level on every play and her desire to win, that incredible attitude is the primary reason we worked so hard to recruit her, and we're really glad she chose to come to play with us here at Acadia."
Dixon, an accomplished student, and active community member, has been a member of the Nova Scotia provincial teams since 2018 and participated in the 2019 National Championship where she was the team captain for the sixth-place finishing Team Nova Scotia.
With the Citadel High School Phoenix, Dixon was a silver medalist in Regional and Provincial Championships in grade 10 and finished second-place in the Capital Region in Grade 11 (no Provincials due to COVID-19 pandemic).
Despite the interrupted season of high school basketball this year, Dixon has remained focused on her aspiration to become a student-athlete within the university academic and sport environment.
"I've always wanted to play basketball at the U SPORTS level and Acadia's academics as well as their team dynamic and focus on player development made them my top choice. I'm looking forward to starting this new chapter and joining the Axewomen," said Dixon.
"I'm really looking forward to bonding with my new teammates and to starting my university basketball career. I'm also very excited to learn from Len, such a highly regarded coach."
