WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The Acadia women's basketball team announced today the commitment of 5'8" shooting guard Jewel Woolfitt from Brookfield, N.S. as the most recent committed player for the 2022-23 season.
Woolfitt is a product of the Cobequid Educational Centre Cougars basketball program along with club play with the CBA Tigers.
"Jewel has been someone we've watched for a while, and we believe she's really going to be a solid guard for our team. She's quietly gone about her business, working her tail off to develop as one of the top players in NS and has established herself as a leader on one of the best high school teams in the province," noted Axewomen head coach Len Harvey.
Adding, "We really like her competitive spirit, high basketball IQ, and that she is emotionally consistent on the floor, which is a rare quality to find these days. I'm excited to coach Jewel here at Acadia, it's corny to say, but we think we got a 'jewel' of a recruit with her commitment to the team."
With the Cougars, Woolfitt is a winner of the C.E.C. basketball 3D Award. Along with her personal accolades, Woolfitt's Cougars captured tournament wins at the Eastern Canadian Classic Tournament and the Armbrae Winter Classic this season before NSSAF play was paused due to NS health restrictions.
Along with her club and high school play, Woolfitt has been a part of the Nova Scotia Provincial program, spending two years with the U14 team, one year with the U15 program and is a potential U18 athlete for this summer's NS entry into the Canada Games in Niagara.
Being from a small community in Nova Scotia, Woolfitt found Wolfville and Acadia University the perfect spot to pursue academics and athletics.
"Acadia gave me the best overall feeling. From basketball to academics, I think it will be a great fit for me. Getting the opportunity to play at a high level in such a great community of people is what I am most excited about," commented Woolfitt on her choice to attend Acadia.
