Acadia University will take part in U SPORTS’ national Shoot for the Cure campaign when the Axewomen host the STFX X-Women on Saturday, Jan. 24 at Stu Aberdeen Court. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m., with the Acadia Axemen facing STFX at 8 p.m. in a doubleheader supporting breast cancer research and awareness.

Shoot for the Cure is a national initiative led by U SPORTS and the U SPORTS Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association that raises funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. Now in its 19th year, the campaign brings together athletes, coaches and fans from across the country to support breast cancer research, prevention and treatment.
This year’s U SPORTS campaign runs from January 21 to February 1, 2026, with schools across all four conferences hosting themed games and fundraising events. The national goal for the 2025-26 season is to raise $100,000.
Since launching in 2007, Shoot for the Cure has raised more than $2 million in support of breast cancer research and related charities. Last season alone, the campaign exceeded its target, raising more than $122,000.
The Canadian Cancer Society also continues to see the impact of the campaign.
“Supporting this season’s campaign will enable Canadian scientists to pursue the most promising research in preventing, detecting and treating breast cancer,” said Doug Kane, Director of Independent Fundraising and Sports Alliances for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Along with in-game fundraising, U SPORTS has launched the Shoot for the Cure Collection, a limited-time online merchandise store running from January 21 to February 4 at shop.usports.ca, with proceeds supporting the campaign.
