B.C. standout Madison Hamilton commits to Axewomen rugby
WOLFVILLE, N.S. — The Acadia Axewomen rugby program has added one of British Columbia’s most decorated young players with the commitment of Courtenay native Madison Hamilton for the 2026 Atlantic University Sport (AUS) season.
A 5-foot-6 inside centre and fullback, Hamilton joins the Axewomen after an impressive stretch across school, club, and provincial competition. A product of G.P. Vanier Secondary, she captained her high school team to both B.C. School Provincial and Vancouver Island championships in 2025, earning MVP Back and Player of the Championship honours in the process.
At the club level, Hamilton helped lead the Comox Valley Rapids to the 2024 B.C. Club Provincial title, adding captain and MVP recognition during that campaign. She has also represented Tsunami Rugby, a Vancouver Island regional program, where she captured MVP and Bone Crusher awards for her defensive play and physical presence.
Her provincial résumé is equally strong. Hamilton suited up for the B.C. Bears, helping the team win the 2022 Western Canadian Championship and finish as national finalists. She’s also competed in elite tournaments across Canada and internationally, including tours to New Zealand, Scotland, England, Florida, and Los Angeles — experiences she says helped shape her development and leadership on and off the field.
“Committing to Acadia means more than just playing rugby,” said Hamilton. “It’s about representing a community, striving for excellence, and continuing my journey of growth as both a player and a person. I’m proud and excited to wear the Acadia jersey and contribute everything I have to the team.”
Known for her pace, strong tackling, and field vision, Hamilton has developed into a complete backline player with the versatility to cover multiple positions. Her leadership extends beyond the field — she’s passionate about mentorship and community involvement, often working with younger athletes in her region.
Hamilton will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Acadia, with interests in marine and aquatic resources, combining her academic and athletic ambitions.
She joins an Axewomen program that continues to attract top talent from across Canada as Acadia builds toward future AUS contention.
