Murrant named U SPORTS All-Canadian
WOLFVILLE, N.S. — Acadia hooker Brielynn Murrant has been named a U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian, adding a national honour to a season in which she was voted the Atlantic University Sport most valuable player.
A third-year community development student from Port Caledonia, N.S., Murrant led Acadia to a 4-2-0 regular-season record and second place in the AUS standings. She scored seven tries in five league games (35 points), then added two more in last week’s 24–19 semifinal win over UPEI. Her First Team All-Canadian selection, announced at Thursday night’s national awards banquet, recognizes a year marked by consistent impact in both set piece and open play.
Murrant’s All-Canadian nod follows her AUS MVP award, which also made her the conference nominee for the national player of the year. She is the latest in a line of Axewomen to earn national recognition from a program that continues to pair forward strength with pace out wide.
Acadia’s conference all-star contingent reflected that balance. The Axewomen placed seven players on the AUS all-star team: prop Lauren Deal, lock Jenna Gallant, flanker Brielynn Murrant, fly half Sarah Gunn, centre Abbie Chisholm, winger Juliette Matsukubo and fullback Sarah Williston.
Murrant’s season totals and her role in decisive moments underlined her value. She led the team in tries, shared the scoring lead at 35 points, and produced in the playoffs, where her carries and breakdown work helped set the platform for key scores.
The First Team All-Canadian selection caps a standout campaign for Murrant and underscores Acadia’s presence among the country’s top programs.
