Local talent Presley Penny commits to Axewomen rugby
Provincial champion and Horton co-captain headed to Wolfville
The Acadia Axewomen rugby program is adding local talent with the commitment of Hantsport native Presley Penny for the 2026 season.
Penny, a 5'5 player who can line up in the back row or at centre, joins Acadia following a strong high school career at Horton High School, which will conclude this spring.
During the 2023–24 season, Penny helped lead Horton to a provincial championship. Her performance that year earned her the team’s Rookie of the Year award.
She continued to develop as a leader in the following season. In 2024–25, Penny served as co-captain while Horton finished third in the provincial standings.
Penny’s ability to play multiple positions gives her versatility on the field. She brings a strong work ethic and familiarity with the local rugby community as she prepares to make the transition to the university level.
Penny said joining Acadia represents an opportunity to stay close to home while becoming part of a larger tradition.
“For me, going to Acadia is being a part of more than just a school,” she said. “It’s being a part of a community, a tradition, a family. I’ve always been watching Acadia sports and I’m honoured to have the opportunity to be a student-athlete so close to home.”
She will begin her studies in psychology when she arrives at Acadia.
