Manitoba forward Regina Suliman commits to Axewomen rugby
The Acadia Axewomen rugby program has added a physical and accomplished forward with the commitment of Regina Suliman, a prop and No. 8 from Winnipeg, Man., for the 2026–27 Atlantic University Sport season.
Suliman, who stands 170 centimetres, will graduate from St. Mary’s Academy in Winnipeg in 2025 and plans to begin her studies at Acadia in fall 2026. She will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.
A consistent presence in Manitoba’s high school and club rugby landscape, Suliman competed with the St. Mary’s Academy Flames from 2023 to 2025. She served as team captain during the 2024–25 season and was recognized as Player of the Game five times. At the provincial championships, the Flames placed third in 15s in 2023 and second in 7s in 2024.
At the club level, Suliman plays with the Sturgeon Creek Rowdies in the Provincial Women’s Club Rugby competition. During the 2025 season, she earned Rookie Forward of the Year honours and was named Player of the Game once, continuing to establish herself as a reliable and impactful presence in the forward pack.
Suliman has also represented Rugby Manitoba at the provincial level from 2023 to 2025. Her experience includes a third-place finish at the Prairie Cup 15s tournament in 2024 and a second-place result at the Manitoba Summer Games with Winnipeg Gold 7s that same year.
Her development has extended beyond provincial competition. Suliman trained with the MacDowell Rugby Academy from fall 2024 through winter 2025 and has been selected to the Rugby Manitoba women’s 7s squad for the 2025 Canada Summer Games. She is also set to participate in the Inside Running Rugby Academy in New Zealand in February 2026, gaining international training experience.
Suliman said committing to Acadia represents an important step in her athletic and personal growth.
“Committing to Acadia means joining a program that values hard work, growth and strong team culture,” she said. “From the start, Acadia felt like home, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to challenge myself every day while representing a program built on pride, accountability and excellence.”
