Former Brock prop Laura Brown commits to Axewomen rugby
Two-time OUA all-star adds leadership and experience
The Acadia Axewomen rugby program has added U SPORTS experience and front-row depth with the commitment of Reaboro, Ont., native Laura Brown for the upcoming Atlantic University Sport season.
Brown, a 5'7 prop, joins the Axewomen after four seasons with Brock University. She will pursue a Bachelor of Education at Acadia after completing her kinesiology degree at Brock.
During her time with the Badgers, Brown competed in the Ontario University Athletics conference and helped the program remain nationally competitive. Brock finished among the top 10 teams in U SPORTS during her career and placed third in the OUA standings during the 2024-25 season.
Brown established herself as a key contributor in the forward pack and earned OUA second-team all-star honours twice, receiving recognition in both 2022-23 and 2024-25. She also served as an assistant captain with the Badgers, bringing leadership experience to the field and locker room.
In the 2024-25 season, Brown recorded five tries, tying for 16th in OUA scoring despite playing in the front row. Her ability to contribute offensively while maintaining a physical presence in set pieces and open play made her an important piece of Brock’s lineup.
Outside of university competition, Brown also gained experience with the Ontario Senior Women’s program in the QORC league from 2021 to 2024.
Brown said she is excited to continue both her academic and rugby career at Acadia.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the women’s rugby family and beginning the education program at Acadia,” she said. “I’m excited to learn from the coaches and athletes and bring my experience and love for the game to contribute everything I can to the team’s success.”
Brown’s experience, leadership and physical play add another veteran presence to the Axewomen forward group as the program continues to build toward the upcoming AUS season.
