Axewomen add veteran playmaker Meaghen Comeau
RSEQ all-star adds experience and leadership to Acadia
The Acadia Axewomen rugby program has added U SPORTS experience to its backline with the commitment of Hammonds Plains, N.S., native Meaghen Comeau for the upcoming Atlantic University Sport season.
Comeau, a 5'3 scrumhalf, joins the Axewomen after spending four seasons with the Concordia Stingers in the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ). She will pursue a degree in education at Acadia after completing her history degree at Concordia.
During her time with the Stingers, Comeau established herself as one of the conference's top scrumhalves. In 2023, she earned RSEQ second-team all-star honours after a strong season directing Concordia's attack. That same year, she was named Concordia's 7s MVP, recognizing her impact in both the traditional and sevens formats of the game.
Beyond her university career, Comeau gained valuable experience competing with Rugby Québec's senior program from 2023 to 2026. She also represented the Keltics senior women's program from 2019 to 2022 and competed with Beaconsfield RFC in Rugby Québec competition from 2023 to 2025.
The combination of provincial, club and university experience has helped shape Comeau into a composed and intelligent playmaker. As a scrumhalf, she is responsible for controlling the tempo of the game and connecting the forwards and backs, skills she developed through years of competition at high levels.
Comeau said the opportunity to return to Nova Scotia and join one of the country's top university rugby programs made Acadia an easy choice.
“For me, committing to Acadia is an exciting way to continue my athletic career while furthering my education,” she said. “I am excited to join such a dominant program and add my experience to such a skilled backline.
“Being back East is exciting for me and I cannot wait to get started in August.”
