The Acadia Axewomen fell 1-0 to the Dalhousie Tigers in Atlantic University Sport women's soccer action Friday night at Wickwire Field.
The match was scoreless through the first half. Acadia goalkeeper Milena Ramirez made key saves to keep the Tigers off the board, including stops against Paris Axam in the 10th minute and Arianna Rushenas in the 17th. Acadia earned two corner kicks in the half, with Jamie Verhun delivering service in the 34th and 43rd minutes, but the Tigers defence held firm.
Dalhousie broke through in the 67th minute. Rushenas scored the lone goal of the match, finishing a pass from Axam to give the Tigers the lead.
Ramirez kept Acadia in the contest with several strong saves, denying Ella Halliday in the 51st minute, Maeve McCloskey in the 54th, and Jordan Mansfield in the 78th and 80th. She finished with seven saves on eight shots.
Dalhousie goalkeeper Emily Toth was not forced to make a save, as the Axewomen were held without a shot on target. Acadia earned four corner kicks in the game, including one in the final minute, but could not find an equalizer.
Dalhousie held an 8-0 advantage in shots and improved to 4-0-0 on the season. Acadia dropped to 1-3-0.
The Axewomen return to action Sept. 7 when they host Mount Allison in their home opener at Raymond Field.
