The Acadia Axewomen scored four times in the second half to defeat the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues 4-0 in Atlantic University Sport women's soccer action Friday night at Raymond Field.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Acadia broke through in the 56th minute on an own goal created by pressure from Riley Bonadie and Taylor Kay.
The lead doubled in the 62nd minute when Leah Adams scored her first of two goals, finishing a chance set up by her teammates.
In the 85th minute, Lily Walsh converted a penalty kick to make it 3-0. Adams struck again three minutes later, this time unassisted, to close out the scoring.
Acadia controlled play throughout, outshooting Moncton 25-6 and holding a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Krista Phillips made eight saves in goal for Moncton, while Milena Ramirez stopped all five shots she faced to record the clean sheet for Acadia.
Adams led the Axewomen with two goals on three shots, while Walsh, Bonadie and Kay also contributed offensively.
With the victory, Acadia improved to 3-2-0 on the season. Moncton dropped to 1-2-1.
The Axewomen return to action Friday, Sept. 19, when they visit Moncton. They will then host UPEI on Sunday, Sept. 21, at Raymond Field.
