Axewomen add Canada Games outside hitter Julia Bowering

The Acadia Axewomen volleyball program has added outside hitter Julia Bowering for the 2026 season.

Bowering, a 5'8 outside hitter from Cole Harbour, N.S., joins Acadia from Auburn Drive High School and the Bedford Blizzard Volleyball Club.

She will study nutrition at Acadia.

“I chose Acadia because I really loved the campus and the town of Wolfville,” said Bowering. “It felt very welcoming and like a place I could see myself living and studying in. I’d also heard a lot of positive things about the school and the community there.”

Bowering helped Auburn Drive finish second in its regional final and fifth in Nova Scotia during the 2025 season. She was named the school’s volleyball rookie of the year in 2023 and most valuable player in 2024.

At the club level, Bowering played with Dartmouth Volleyball Club and Bedford Blizzard. Her teams placed third at 16U provincials, second at 17U provincials and won the 18U provincial championship.

The 18U provincial title was a memorable finish for Bowering after coming close in previous years.

“My most memorable volleyball moment was winning a provincial championship in my 18U season, after coming so close in previous years,” said Bowering. “It was especially meaningful because of how hard our team had worked together over the season.”

Bowering’s 18U team also placed 10th out of 192 teams at nationals. She was named an all-star at 18U provincials and was recognized for attitude and athleticism during her 17U season.

She also has provincial program experience. Bowering was part of Team Nova Scotia’s Royal Program in 2024 and attended Canada Cup. She was part of the Provincial Excellence Program from 2024 to 2026 and represented Nova Scotia at the 2025 Canada Games.

Acadia head coach Michelle Wood said Bowering’s competitiveness and leadership will strengthen the Axewomen.

“Julia is a passionate competitor and a natural leader who consistently sets the standard through her work ethic and commitment,” said Wood. “Her athleticism is one of her defining strengths and is reflected in her exceptional performance in the weight room.

“Combined with her Canada Games experience and top-10 finish at the national championships, she brings the competitive mindset and proven success that will make an immediate impact on our program.”
