Huskies extend series to game four with 2-1 win

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - After a scoreless first period, the Saint Mary's Huskies scored one goal in each period to stay alive in the best of five AUS championship series. The 2-1 victory cuts the Acadia lead in the series to 2-1 with game four tomorrow night in Halifax again.

The game was one of the most physical matches between both teams due in part to the smaller ice surface of the Halifax Forum and several hits on both teams resulted in flared tempers.

AUS All-Rookie team member Geoff Schemitsch had to be escorted off the ice following a big hit in the Acadia end. Schemitsch did not return to the game.

After a scoreless first period, Huskie Lucas Bloodoff scored on an easy tap-in following a Bradley Greene shot that rebounded towards Bloodoff.

Stephen Johnson scored the eventual game winner at 8:03 in the third on the man-advantage. The Huskies were one for six on the powerplay, while the Axemen were stymied on seven powerplay opportunities.

Michael Clark scored his second goal of the playoffs with 3:33 remaining in the final frame to cut the lead to one.

The Axemen pulled Evan Mosher with a minute remaining in the game but fell short in their attempt to tie the game in the closing seconds. Following the last whistle, four Axemen and five Huskies were assessed 10-minute misconducts following a tussle with no time on the clock.

Both Huskie Antony Peters and Acadia's Evan Mosher were solid in net with 24 and 22 saves respectively. Peters was named the Subway First Star of the Game.

The Saint Mary's victory is their first against Acadia in the 2013-14 season and extends the AUS Final series to game four at the Halifax Forum tomorrow night. If a game five is required, both teams will hook horns for the last time in Wolfville on Wednesday night.
