Axemen lose in OT after Huskie heriocs

HALIFAX, NS - Hockey fans at the Halifax Forum fans were treated to great AUS hockey action, that saw the #7 CIS Saint Mary's Huskies top the #3 Acadia Axemen 4-3 in overtime.

Kyle Pereira (Brampton, ON) scored on the powerplay at 4:18 of extra time to give the Huskies the win.  Pereira's big tally earned him Subway player of the game honours.

Saint Mary's opened the scoring in the first period when Stephen MacAulay (Cole Harbour, NS) scored on the powerplay at 17:14 to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. 

Acadia evened things up early in the 2nd, when Brett Thompson (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) notched a marker at 3:26 to tie the score at 1-1 after two periods. 

In the third period, Acadia took the lead when Boston Leier (Saskatoon, SK) scored at 4:35 to make the score 2-1. The Axemen quickly extended their lead when Remy Giftopoulos (Ancaster, ON) tallied at 5:46 to give Acadia a 3-1 lead. 

At 19:06 Saint Mary's cut into the lead when Stephen Johnston (Guelph, ON) scored to bring the game to within one goal at 3-2. The  Less than 30 seconds later, the Huskies tied the game in dramatic fashion when MacAulay scored his 2nd goal of the night at 19:34 to make tie things up a sending the game to overtime.

The Axemen outshot the Huskies 49-30 in the contest.  Fourth year goalie, Anthony Peters (Blyth, ON) made 46 saves to get the win in net for Saint Mary's. Brandon Glover stopped 26 shots in goal for the Axemen

The Huskies and Axemen both return to action this Friday night. Saint Mary's visits the St. Thomas Tommies in Fredericton, while the Axemen host the Universite De Moncton Aigles Bleus in Wolfville.
