WOLFVILLE, N.S. — The Acadia Axemen beat the UPEI Panthers 3–1 on Saturday at Andrew H. McCain Arena, riding a 2–1 second period and Thomas Couture's 33 saves.
After a scoreless first, Marc Boudreau put Acadia ahead at 2:13 of the second, finishing from Charlie Desroches and Ryder McIntyre. UPEI levelled at 6:38 on Colby Huggan's marker from Robert Orr and Zach Biggar.
Acadia answered on the power play at 15:56 when Justin DeZoete converted from Brayden Schmitt and McIntyre for a 2–1 lead through 40 minutes.
The Panthers pulled their goalie late, and Kian Bell sealed it with an empty-netter at 18:17 of the third.
Shots were even at 34–34. Acadia went 1-for-2 on the power play and killed both UPEI chances. Jakob Robillard made 31 saves for UPEI before yielding to the extra attacker; the empty-net goal was charged to the team. The three stars were Desroches, Robillard and Couture.
