WOLFVILLE, N.S. — Acadia built a two-goal lead and outshot Moncton 47–33, but fell 3–2 in a shootout on Saturday at Andrew H. McCain Arena.
The Axemen struck twice in the first period. Brady Burns opened the scoring at 11:15 off a feed from Kian Bell, with Luke Zazula also drawing an assist. Marc Boudreau made it 2–0 at 17:25, finishing a setup from Cam Whynot. Goaltender Olivier Adam kept Moncton close with 22 first-period saves as Acadia carried the play early.
Moncton pushed back in the third. Charles Côté cut the deficit to 2–1 at 13:41, and Jules Boilard tied it at 16:36. Regulation ended level at 2–2 after Acadia's 0-for-7 night on the power play and Moncton's 0-for-2. Overtime solved nothing.
In the shootout, Jeremy Lapointe converted the opening attempt for Moncton. Acadia's three shooters—Bailey Peach, Bell and Burns—were turned aside as the visitors claimed the extra point.
Thomas Couture made 31 saves for Acadia. Adam finished with 45 stops for Moncton. The Axemen won the shots battle in three of four frames, including a 24–5 edge in the first period. Attendance was 979.
Acadia is back home on Friday, Nov. 7, to face Dalhousie at 7 p.m.
