Acadia swept by Moncton in tight sets on the road
MONCTON, N.B. — Acadia was swept 3–0 by Moncton on Sunday afternoon at CEPS, falling in three tightly contested sets: 26–24, 26–24 and 25–23. The Axewomen finished with 32 kills, but Moncton countered with 46 kills and eight service aces to take control of the match.
Acadia stayed level with Moncton early in the opening set, with Alexia Lemay-Evans producing several kills and the duo of Katie MacLean and Mia Lemay-Evans combining for a key block to tie the score 4–4. The Axewomen kept responding to Moncton's runs, narrowing a 17–12 deficit behind kills from Jenna Lake and Mia Lemay-Evans, along with a service ace from Charley McDonald. Acadia fought back to tie the set 24–24 on an Alexia Lemay-Evans kill, but Moncton closed out the frame with back-to-back kills for a 26–24 win.
Moncton opened the second set with a 5–0 run, capitalizing on Acadia errors and a service ace. The Axewomen steadied and surged back into the set, highlighted by a four-point run that included two aces from Lake to tie it 14–14. Acadia continued to match Moncton point-for-point, pulling even again at 18–18 with kills from Alexia Lemay-Evans and Brianna Bourque. For the second straight set, Acadia tied the score at 24–24 on a block from MacLean and Mia Lemay-Evans, but Moncton sealed it with a kill and an ace for another 26–24 result.
The third set mirrored the first two, with both teams trading points early. Alexia Lemay-Evans delivered three kills in the opening stretch, and MacLean briefly pushed Acadia ahead 6–5 with a kill. Moncton quickly regained the lead, but Acadia continued to press, cutting the deficit to 17–16 after a Bourque kill and ace. The Blue Eagles stretched their lead to 20–17, but Acadia again responded, closing to within one at 24–23. A service error ended the comeback attempt, giving Moncton the set 25–23 and the match sweep.
Alexia Lemay-Evans led Acadia with 12 kills on .324 hitting and added 11 digs. Mia Lemay-Evans posted five blocks and four kills. MacLean finished with 20 assists and two kills, while Lake added 10 digs and two aces.
Moncton's offense was paced by Mia Jolicoeur, who recorded 11 kills on .526 hitting and added two aces. Jasmine Allain led all players with 22 digs. Mia Ladd had 33 assists and eight digs, while Tori Casey added 10 kills, two aces and two block assists.
