HALIFAX, N.S. — Acadia erased an early deficit with three unanswered goals and beat Saint Mary's 4–2 on Wednesday night. The win moves the Axemen into a one-point lead atop the AUS standings ahead of SMU and Moncton.
The Huskies opened the scoring on a power play when Will Chisholm converted at 2:28 of the first. Bailey Peach answered at 6:19 from Luke Zazula and Zak Lavoie, but Saint Mary's re-took the lead at 14:46 through Landon Cato to make it 2–1 after one.
Acadia drew level in the second when defenceman Brayden Schmitt pounced on a loose puck at 8:20, set up by Lavoie and Brendan Tomilson. Goaltender Thomas Couture stopped all 15 shots he faced in the frame to keep it 2–2 through 40 minutes.
The Axemen took control early in the third. Lavoie finished a rush at 2:21 off feeds from Liam Kidney and Peach to put Acadia ahead for good. With the Huskies pressing late and the goalie out, Tomilson sealed it at 18:25.
Lavoie led the offence with a goal and two assists. Peach recorded a goal and an assist, and Tomilson had a goal and an assist. Couture made 35 saves in the victory. Acadia went 0-for-4 on the power play; Saint Mary's finished 1-for-6. Shots favoured the Huskies 37–29.
Next up: Acadia returns home to host Moncton on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. at Andrew H. McCain Arena, closing a five-game road trip.
