Axewomen fall to Memorial in season finale
Acadia finishes fifth in AUS after four-set loss at Stu Aberdeen Court
The Acadia Axewomen dropped a 3-1 decision to the Memorial Sea-Hawks on Saturday at Stu Aberdeen Court in their final match of the season.
Memorial won by set scores of 25-12, 16-25, 25-15 and 25-22. The Sea-Hawks recorded 12 service aces in the victory. Acadia finishes the season fifth in the AUS standings.
Alexia Lemay-Evans was named Acadia's player of the game.
Memorial took control early in the opening set. The Sea-Hawks built a quick lead with strong offensive play and capitalized on errors. Kills from Charley McDonald and Alexia Lemay-Evans put Acadia on the board, but Memorial extended its advantage and closed the set 25-12.
Acadia responded in the second set.
The Axewomen settled into their rhythm midway through the frame. Mia Lemay-Evans and Jenna Guy recorded key kills as Acadia capitalized on Memorial errors. Katie MacLean guided the offense with consistent assists during a strong run. Acadia maintained its lead despite a late push and evened the match with a 25-16 win.
Memorial regained momentum in the third set.
The Sea-Hawks opened with a strong run behind the play of Courtney Hodder and Lydia Grawer. Acadia answered with kills from Guy and Jenna Lake, but Memorial continued to control the tempo. Despite efforts from Alexia Lemay-Evans and Mia Lemay-Evans, the visitors secured the set 25-15.
The fourth set remained tight.
Acadia battled back from an early deficit with kills from Guy and Alexia Lemay-Evans. A service ace from Mia Lemay-Evans helped tie the score at 10. The Axewomen later built a 16-13 lead following a block by McDonald and another kill from Alexia Lemay-Evans.
Memorial responded with a run to tie the set at 20. The Sea-Hawks capitalized on a late service ace and an attack error to take the lead and closed the set 25-22 to secure the match.
Alexia Lemay-Evans led Acadia with 14 kills and 15.5 points. Mia Lemay-Evans added nine kills and two blocks for 11.5 points. MacLean recorded 29 assists and seven digs. Lake finished with three aces and seven digs.
Grawer led Memorial with 19 kills and a .400 hitting percentage, totaling 23 points. Naomie McWhinney recorded six service aces and five solo blocks for 18 points. Karen Greek posted 32 assists, while Hodder added 13 kills.
